January beauty favourites

OMG
It's actually nearly the end of January 2018, officially the longest month since records began, well maybe that's an exaggeration, but bloody hell, it feels like it has been January forever.......

At last it's time, for my January beauty favourites

January beauty favourites

This months favourites include a couple of new to me products and some I've had a while, but recently found a new love for.
I'll start with the newbies, Kiss beautiful brow kit*, now I'll be honest when I received this I wasn't expecting to be bowled over. I usually just use a pencil to fill in my brows rather than a powder, but I gave it a whirl, and now I use it everyday to do my brows. I use the darkest shade with a slanted brush, I'm loving the results, it gives a far more natural fuller brow than with a pencil, and it's just about dark enough.
Another new kid on the block is Soma skin* coffee body scrub, hands down this is my favourite body scrub, it smells amazing and leaves my skin so soft, I can't get enough of it, you can read my full review here if you like the sound of it.

January beauty favourites

I recently tidied through my beauty products and rediscovered a perfume that seemed to find it's way to the back of the shelf, Paca Robanne Olympea, I'm rubbish at describing scents, this is a slightly floral but not heady fragrance with hints of vanilla, told you I was rubbish, just go give it a sniff next time your in store.

Lastly two makeup products I have been reaching for loads in January are Mac's face and body, for me this is a perfect everyday, don't wanna wear to much makeup base, that gives a sheer dewy finish to my skin, and The Balm Mary Lou Manizer highlighter. I've had both ages but recently started using them together to give my skin the perfect glow.

Have you tried any of these products? I would love to know your thoughts.

Dressing like the sun

It's still January 2018, aka the longest month since time began, or at least its certainly feels that way, are you with me?
Winter has more than lost any appeal to me, cold days and dark afternoons are all very well before Christmas, but now, well now I am so over it. I am sick of cold, drizzly dark days and for me Spring cannot come soon enough, bring on some sunshine, but until we get some constantly pleasant weather, I am gonna dress like a ray of sunshine.

Saying that on the day, these shots where taken we had a rare sunny day, but of course we know that won't last. I have had this bright yellow 80's style jumper for 3/4 years, it was bought in Topshop on a whim, yet every Spring it comes out of the wardrobe, just this year it's come out early, as I desperately need a bit of sunshine in my life.

Some lovely yellow alternatives, if you to want to dress like the sun....

As for the checked blazer, you may remember it from Autumn, when I wore it with practically every outfit, well that's until it got cold, then I swapped it for a "big" coat. I'm hoping it can start making a reappearance regularly again soon, because I am still very fond of it.

I absolutely loved wearing this outfit and it certainly brightened up my day, the grey checked blazer, tones down the look, with my adidas fitting into the equation perfectly.

Who else is ready for Spring?

Rediscovered makeup loves

Since the beginning of the new year, I have been on a massive, cleaning, tidying and sorting buzz, I dunno what's got into me, but I am loving this new found motivation and positive attitude. I have tidied and reorgonised my desk area, decorated my dining room, and given the kitchen a lick of paint. Told ya I was on it!
Next on my list is our bedroom, this have never been decorated since we have lived here so well overdue, so what did I need to do? you guessed it, sort my shit out!! And in doing so I have rediscovered belongings I had forgotten about, including makeup, and you guessed it that's what this post is all about.

Come with me on a journey, where I find good makeup that hadn't been used in a while, because apparently I don't even know what I own.........

Rediscovered makeup favourites

Eye shadows feature heavily in this collection, because that's what I seem to buy the most of...
First up, remember when everyone went bat shit for the Too Faced Sweet Peach collection? I was on that band wagon and snapped up the Sweet Peach eyeshadow palette, and loved it, I mean really loved it, it is one dreamy palette 18 shades including matte and shimmers in gorgeous peachy tones, plus the packaging is cute, it smells of peach and the quality is insane, what is not to love? I have been asking myself how it ended up hidden and unloved.

Too faced sweet peach palette

Tarte tartlette in bloom

Another stunning palette that got lost in my collection is the Tarte Tartlette in Bloom palette. This is my only Tarte product, the quality again is stunning and the shade range gorgeous, I love the shimmers within this palette the pay of is incredible. I think this is a must have palette.

The Rosie for Autograph cream eyeshadow stick is a God send when your in a rush or just want a simple but effective eye look, I would 100% recommend picking one of these up next time your in Marks n Sparks. I just draw it on my eye lid and smudge out with my finger, simple.

Recently I have fancied a change from matte lipsticks, and have been going for a glossier lip product. I bought this LA girl lip paint yonks ago, and it got lost in with my many other lip products, since rediscovering it I have been reaching for this as an easy everyday lip shade, that feels like a lip balm on my lips.

Mac lovejoy mineralized blush

Lastly we have this beauty from Mac the Mineralize blush in the shade Lovejoy, Lovejoy is a blush like know other I own, I love the warm brown shade and gold running through, this blush is perfect for when you want that healthy looking glow to your makeup, and great with a tan.

So the moral of the story is, keep your belongings tidy and you won't loose things..........

Yummy oaty/fruity breakfast buns

If you are like me, and love a little snack and nibble on things that are not particularly healthy. You may like this super quick, easy to make recipe, packed with oats and berries, these little buns make a yummy snack, or work at breakfast time. Well that's if you don't eat much in the morning. I personally have a big bowl of porridge and fruit every morning, but I am always starving as soon as I open my eyes!

Oaty/fruity breakfast bun recipe

Oaty/fruity breakfast buns

You will need ,

2 cups of porridge oats
2 beaten eggs
2 mashed bananas
1 tbs maple syrup
1 tsp baking powder
1 cup of berries of your choice
muffin tray
bun cases

Method,

  1. Mash the bananas in a bowl using a fork, once mashed add, the beaten eggs, porridge oats, baking powder and syrup, and mix till combined.
  2. Next add your berries, I used a mixture of raspberries and blueberries, which I buy frozen and keep in the freezer. These are not only cheaper but save on wastage. You can add what berries you like.
  3. Spoon the mixture into bun cases, I made 8 but it depends on the size of cases you use, and pop in an oven preheated to 200c, cook for 15/20 mins until browned on top.
  4. Leave to cool, put in a plastic tub and keep in the fridge, the buns will firm up once cooled.

A coffee body scrub you really need from Soma

You guys know I am a massive coffee fan, and drink copious amounts, but I had never tried a coffee body scrub before, I know right, I'm not sure why either. I like a scrub as much as the next person but can sometimes find them a little harsh and drying, so wasn't expecting much different with the Soma* one, but boy was I wrong!

I have never used a more moisterising scrub, ever!

Soma coffee scrub review
Quite a statement I know, but this scrub leaves my skin feeling so moisterised, I mean seriously moisterised. Soma coffee scrub not only contains ground robusta beans to buff the skin but also almond oil to really penetrate adding much needed vitamin E, to soften and soothe dry skin.
The packaging is practical and sleek and is resealable making it perfect for taking in the shower. Once opened the scrub smells amazing, not only of coffee but a hint of sugary vanilla, what more can you want from your shower in the morning.
Soma coffee scrub review
Soma is a small business available to purchase on Etsy, who hand make the scrubs to order, meaning they contain only natural ingredients. so not only are you purchasing a gorgeous natural product you also supporting a small business.

Soma coffee body scrub is available to purchase on Etsy for £9.95

Lifestyle - My Dining room makeover

Hey you guys, you may of seen my incoherent ramblings on Twitter about my recent decorating en-devour, my dining room, now the term dining room makes it sound grand, it's not, the room is fairly small and for some reason when the room was last decorated 8 years ago I thought it was a good idea to have it wallpapered, mmm hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Despite being at the front of the house with a good size window the room needed brightening up, so that wallpaper had to go, and if you have ever stripped wallpaper you will know it is a massive pain in the arse to remove, and this task alone nearly broke me........

Now the room is light, bright, clean and fresh, its been decluttered and now feels like a calm relaxing room to enjoy my morning coffee and our family meals of an evening.

So what did I do

After the room was prepped, ie wallpaper stripped and walls wiped down, I set about painting I went for brilliant white on the ceiling, a white satin on the woodwork and radiator and the walls I choose a gorgeous pale grey shade (White Petal), so I could really show off the artwork I had chosen for the room. Now we are on a budget so choose all out paint from B&Q own paint range, and we where not disappointed despite being reasonably priced the paint is excellent quality and was easy to apply, so I would highly recommend.

I decluttered my dresser it now displays things I love including pieces we have inherited and old family photo's, of course I added a modern touch with the lightbox and fairy lights my style is quite eclectic, I like old a new to sit side by side.
Now for the element that really makes the room in my opinion, the prints I have chosen from Desenio. I have seen a few accounts on instagram sharing prints they chose from Desenio, so being the easily influenced person I am, I took a look, I must admit it took me bloody ages to narrow down which prints to buy as there are literally hundreds of designs to choose from. In the end I went for a black and white theme to complement my colour scheme, and I cannot tell you how pleased I am with the end result I love how they look and how the room now feels, If you are looking for some prints check them out.
