April's beauty favourites

Hello, ello, It's monthly favourites time again, yep another month is reaching the end, hopefully May will bring sun to us, the sun starved British, 4 days this year wasn't enough!

April's beauty favourites

So without further ado let's crack on, this month I have added a perfume to my favourites post, sorry in advance, I am crap at describing scents so this is probably not gonna be that helpful but Mugler Aura, was the fragrance I bought for holiday last year, so for me always reminds me of Greece. It's quite a fresh fragrance not to sweet, it just smells Summery to me now and makes me want to fly back to Kos asap, granted this is not a particularly helpful description, but in my opinion worth a sniff next time you find yourself at a perfume counter.

April beauty favourites

A product that comes into its own, once the weather gets warmer, if you have a fringe you will know what I'm saying. Sweaty fringe is not a look I go for so the Batiste dry shampoo is a life saver, well not literally but does save me from having to wash me hair for an extra day, so yeah basically a life saver!!

Last time I ran out of moisteriser I was pretty skint (story of my life), so on a whim picked up a new in product from Garnier, Botanical day cream, and I'm glad I did, I have always been a fan of Garnier's skincare and swear by there micellar water. I got the Rose water for sensitive skin, and it is a lovely lightweight day cream. It does the job my face feels soft and smooth after use, its not greasy or heavy, I like it, and its dirt cheap to, so it's a YES from me.

Too faced sweet peach palette

Makeup wise I'm in Summer mode even if the weather isn't, so that means my Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette, has found its way back into my makeup bag, I loved it last Summer and I think this year is gonna be the same. For me it has just the type of colours I like to wear in the warmer months, with the neutral, pinks and golds, it's a great everyday palette and looks banging with fresh, glowy makeup. Which leads me nicely on to the last product Mac mineralize blush in love joy, I love this product when I want to look a bit glowy and bronzed up and it looks great with tan, as with most Mac products this goes along way, you need a light hand.

Let me know what you've been loving this month, or if you enjoy any of the products I have mentioned.

Moving on and meeting someone new

You may of read my recent post Getting over a bad relationship , well this post is kind of a follow up, when you feel ready to meet someone new and making sure you stay safe doing so.

The first step many of us do is sign up to an online dating site, online can be a great way to meet someone, but of course can have its pitfalls, we've all heard the stories from dates gone wrong, but many, I mean thousands of people meet online. It just seems natural that as we spend more of our time tapping away at our laptops or on our phones, that we will also incorporate dating into our online lives.

Gone are the days when couples meet at the dance like our grandparents, or down the pub like our parents, we just do not do these things anymore, especially if like me you live in a small town you just see the same people everytime you go out, or you are related !! which does limit the pool of choice somewhat.

So you decide to take the plunge and go online, I would suggest a quick research before signing up, to make sure the site offers what you are looking for and if there is any cost involved, some websites offer free dating

When it comes to meeting people online the same rules apply really as meeting someone " in real life ", be careful how much information you divulge about yourself, never offer up anything personal, or your address to someone you don't know, and if someone seems too good to be true, they could well be. Not everyone is what they seem. I would certainly suggest googling a potential date, checking their Facebook and seeing if it all looks genuine, fake accounts shouldn't be too hard to spot, they often have very limited information, hardly any friends or tags to anyone else's accounts.

I would suggest "talking to someone" online and checking them out before offering up your phone number, and never feel pressured to meet someone if you don't feel ready. On the other hand online relationships that go on to long without any firm arrangements to meet, can also set alarm bells ringing, as we can all pretend to be something we are not online, but it's harder in person. Don't get me wrong someone who doesn't want to rush into meeting may just be shy, nervous, or worried that you will spot that the picture they posted is a couple of years old,  they have a few more wrinkles and less hair then you may of thought, or of course they could just be wasting your time.

When you do click with someone and arrange to go on a date, remember to arrange to meet them at the venue, rather than they come to your home. That the place you meet at will have plenty of people there, and is not to near your home. The last thing you want is to keep bumping into someone you went on a date with, but you didn't like, every morning on your before work coffee run, #Awks
And most importantly always tell someone where you are going, who you are meeting and when you expect to be home.

Dating should be fun, so don't put to much pressure on yourself to meet the "one" within the first week, and certainly expect to come across a few weirdo's, it happens. But also keep an open mind, just because someone isn't your usual type do not immediately dismiss them, remember your ex was your type and look at how that worked out!!

The highstreet makeup I reach for on the daily

I love the highstreet/drugstore makeup brands, and in a lot of cases feel no need to choose higher end, why should I when I am perfectly happy with a more purse friendly brand.

So on that note I thought I would share some of my most reached for makeup from the highstreet, I love to share products especially those that are affordable to everyone.

drugstore makeup top picks

The highstreet makeup I reach for on the daily

I'll start off with base and face products, Revlon colorstay foundation, has been a favourite of mine for ages and I'm probably on my 4/5th bottle, I love how they have a formulation for both oily/combination skin and dry/normal in a range of shades. I am sand beige in the oily/combo formula and I find this to be my perfect colour match, with medium coverage and a formula that doesn't slide of my face, its a no brainer for me.
It will probably come as no surprise to see this next product on the list Revolution conceal and define is pretty hyped right now but for good reason, this is a high coverage concealer, available in shit tonnes of shades and it £4!!
Now I love a good highlight and the highstreet is awash with some pretty good ones, the two I have and love are Revolution liquid highlighter, in the shade Ethereal, I really wanna try some of the other shades if you have any recommendations hit me up. Another highlighter that is a favourite amongst bloggers is Sleek's highlighter quad Cleopatra's kiss, 2 cream and 2 powder gold toned products that add a lovely glow especially on tanned skin.

Highstreet makeup top picks

Probably my favourite blusher, not just from the highstreet but in my whole collection is The Balm Fratboy blush this is a bit on the pricier side for highstreet but in my opinion worth it as its really pigmented, you don't need much, I have had mine over a year and I'm not even near hitting pan.

For highstreet/drugstore lip products I don't think you can go wrong with NYX soft matte cream liquid lipsticks, not only are they a bargain at £6, they have great shades, are none drying and feel and look great on the lips.

For nails I tend to stick to highstreet as I like to change them up quite regularly I don't see the point in spending a bomb, If I'm after a more fancy manicured look I tend to reach for Impress press on nails* they are quick and easy to use and look like you've had a professional job. Nail polish wise I love Port a loo Rimmel 60 second shine it's such a vibrant colour I love it for Spring/Summer.

Highstreet top picks

I hope this post has given you some ideas for what to pick up next time you visit the highstreet.

Let me know if it has I would love to know, plus if you have some recommendations do leave me a comment.

My bag of the Summer from River Island

I am a massive bag lover and have a fair few, not as many as I have shoes, but that is a different story. For me accessories can make or break an outfit and can make the ordinary that bit cooler especially when you are adding a statement piece.
Amongst my collection I have a fair few River Island bags, for few reasons really, A) The handbag collection is always on point, B) The prices are reasonable C) The quality is always off the chart.

This seasons handbag collection is no different they have a tonne of cross body bags, which everyone and there dog are wearing this Spring as well as more "practical" tote or shoppers, perfect for work that can fit your laptop, pack lunch, makeup bag plus the  kitchen sink! I always get my purses from there to, I think they are the best quality on the high street.

Now my latest addition to my handbag family, is not particularly practical, but then who wants practical? This little beaut is a statement, its a nod to the woven bag trend, that everyone is buying into but OH MY it is just that bit more EXTRA. To start with the box shape rather than the sphere makes it different and what with the added embellishment this bag for me will be my bag of the Summer. I just can't get over how bloody lush it is.

It's not big by any means, but certainly big enough for money, keys phone, sunnies and some lippie. Making this ideal for popping out for a coffee or ice cream, drinks in a beer garden, a dinner date, you name it as long as you don't need loads of stuff and it's not raining you are onto a winner!

Now today's outfit is your classic " jeans and a nice top " pretty much my go to for a Spring/Summer evening out, and the woven cross body box bag* really works, the mix of florals with woven texture of the bag and my shoes makes the whole outfit fresh, and season appropriate, plus I love light wash denim in the Summer, and tend to wear it far more than black or darker denim.

Summer and it's promises

I'm writing this post, in my living room, the back door wide open, and an Iced frappe in reach, having just come in from the garden, where I was enjoying some sun. Pretty idyllic by UK standards, I think?!? This taste of Summer has got me excited, I'm making plans and checking dates. The window of opportunity is small for enjoying the warm weather and I intend to make the most of it.

Summer

Summer and it's promises

So what am I looking forward to, well, we haven't booked our Summer holiday yet, we usually like to go away in September, means we can hang on to Summer for that bit longer. It's also less likely that my husband will get burnt to a crisp, its quieter and let's face it, it's so much frigging cheaper. So what about in the meantime, we have a couple of days in London coming up, while we have some family coming over from OZ on a whistle stop tour of Europe, London in the Summer is always gorgeous, I think we may take in a show as well.

I also like to enjoy what East Anglia has to offer, and we often take a drive to the coast, whether it be to a dog friendly beach with a packed picnic, or a sunday afternoon drive to eat a bag of chips by the sea. We are lucky we have both the Norfolk and Suffolk coastline practically on our doorstep. There is nothing like a British seaside town in the Summer, the smell of salty chips, and sweet sticky donuts in the air, men walking about without their tops on, and people complaining it's "to hot" haha!!

Even closer to home, my family love a BBQ, and my hubby spends the warmer months indulging his inner caveman, which is alright by me! is there a nicer way to spend your evening then with a burger and a glass of something cold, laughing and talking with the most important people in the world, I think not.

I also love the simple pleasures, that the warmer weather brings;

Drying your washing outside.
Sleeping with the window open.
Spontaneous road trips.
Walking out to the garden barefoot.
Iced Tea/Iced Coffee.
Finishing every meal with a lolly for pudding.
Filling a paddling pool for the dog.
Evening strolls as the sun's going down.

As you can tell I'm a Summer baby, I was born in a heatwave and love the Summer and all it promises!

What are you looking forward to this Summer time?

DIY How to make a simple plant pot stand

You may of noticed from my Instagram feed I have recently become a bit of a plant lady. I went from a couple of cacti to an array of houseplants in a few months, at the risk of sounding like a saddo, I really enjoy sharing my home with houseplants, not only do the bring the outdoors in with the greenery, I find them calming  its relaxing pottering around the house, watering and taking care of them.

Another past time I have been enjoying recently is a bit of DIY/crafting, my husband has shown me how to use some tools and we have worked together on a couple of projects.

While scrolling Pinterest, something I do approx 207689 times a day, I found a few ideas for plant stands, and after the success we had making a tall one a few weeks ago, I thought I would try this simple one, and I didn't even have to buy anything.

I had the timber left over from our last project, but you can pick up lengths of wood like this from B&Q for £2/3. The wooden bowl was once a salad bowl, that found its way resigned to our garage once I realised we don't eat nowhere near enough salad to warrant such a big salad server.

Decide how tall you want your plant stand and using a saw cut four legs to the desired length, mine has three inch legs, as I wanted this to sit on a side table in my living room rather than on the floor.
Once you have your four legs, rub them down with the sandpaper to make them nice and smooth and to remove any sharp splinters. I then painted the legs white using a sample pot of paint, but you could stain, varnish or paint it's your call. I quite like the contrast between the bowl and the legs.
When the legs are dry just glue in position using wood glue, I left it overnight weighted by a book just to make sure.
Then you have it your finished DIY plant stand, I grouped three smaller plant pots in mine but if you have one larger plant you could put that in it, again it's all up to you.

I haven't written a tutorial for the first stand we made but you can see it pictured in my Getting over a bad relationship post. Or maybe you fancy decorating a plant pot, I handily have a post DIY making a cute cacti plant pot

I hope you are enjoying my DIY posts along with my fashion and beauty as it something I enjoy immensely.

Styling NewLook paperbag waist trousers

Recently, I have been doing something I do not normally do, nothing risque or weird in case you're wondering, this is not some kind of confession :)

I have been wearing and enjoying wearing trousers, there I said it trousers instead of jeans!! this is a revelation for me, always firmly believing no trousers ever suited me, or fit me properly I have hung onto the belief I could only wear jeans.

Newlook are seriously killing it, in the trouser department, last weeks post styling my wide leg striped leg trousers for Spring, and the week before Monochrome stripe Newlook trousers feature wide leg trousers, something I wouldn't normally wear, but I rocked them and decided I needed to get onto the paperbag waist trouser buzz next.

The paperbag waist trousers are flattering, and fit well and I love this rust colour, very out of my comfort zone, but I can see these trousers working in loads of outfits for different occasions. If you are looking to try out paperbag waist trousers Newlook have tonnes.
