June's beauty favourites

We are nearing the end of yet another month, and boy has this one been a scorcher, it really has been flaming June, not that I'm complaining, I am a sun lover.

So what made it into my favourites for the month of June??

June's beauty favourites

I was lucky enough to receive Urban Decay's Petite heat for my birthday from my bestie Hayley, and I bloody love it, this palette has not left my makeup bag, I have worn it everyday I have worn makeup since I got it. The quality is what you expect from Urban Decay, the range of colours are perfect everyday shades, whether a simple eye look or something more dramatic these shades work. They work well together or on there own, blend well and stay put, even in this warm weather. 100% recommend

Another product that hasn't left my face this month is Mac's Prep & Prime, its a no brainer for me in this heatwave. When it comes to bronzer I always use the same product, but it comes into its own with a little bit of a tan Benefit Hoola is a must in your makeup stash.

Another birthday gift was the utterly gorgeous Red Square velvet lip from Nars, this is the perfect orange toned red, ideal for Summer.

Lastly but by know means least, I have been reeled in to the Pixi Glow Tonic hype, I have a mini and love it, I'm planning on purchasing the full size. The hype is definitely deserved, my skin loves it, and the glow is real.

Do you have any of these products? what have you been loving?

Pixi fast flash facial kit

PIXI have been on my skincare wishlist for sometime, but as the products are on the pricey side, I was hesitant to take the plunge. I know they are a well loved brand with many products having cult status in the beauty world, but something was always holding me back. That is until I spotted this cute set, and thought what a good way to try three products from the brand before committing to making a purchase of a full size product.

Pixi fast flash facial kit

Pixi fast flash facial kit contains 3 deluxe travel size products, peel & polish, glow tonic and rose flash balm, a facial in a box if you will.....

Pixi fast flash facial kit

Peel & Polish - is an exfoliating polish containing lactic acid and revitalising  sugar extracts to dissolve dulling cells leaving a brighter complexion. I have really been enjoying this product, using it twice a week, when my skin is looking tired, it really gives my face a boost making my skin look instantly brighter and smoother.

Glow Tonic - This is the product I was most excited about trying, due to its cult reputation, and its the product I will most definitely be buying the full size version. I have never really been taken by toners, as never really noticed much difference in my skin, but the glow tonic is different containing glycolic acid  it instantly brightens and conditions my skin....... I am in love

Rose flash balm - is an oil free moisterising balm, that is a great finishing touch to this routine. Its balm like texture makes it a perfect primer, getting your skin smooth ready for makeup. It has a subtle rose scent and applies beautifully. A really lovely product.

So is the Pixi fast flash facial kit a good buy?

I think so yes, for me it has been a great way of trying the brand, getting to sample three Pixi products for £20. As I mentioned earlier the GLOW TONIC will be added to my everyday skincare routine and is the stand out product in the set.

A casual way to wear black trousers this summer

If you have read my last few fashion posts, you will know I am trying to live a little outside my normal comfort zone, fashion wise, and if you haven't shame on you !!!! haha

A casual way to wear black trousers this summer

Anyway, I am a jeans girl, always have been and probably always will be, but I got sick of seeing myself just in jeans, and decided to start trying new things, pieces that I admire on other people but wouldn't normally even try on, for fear of them not suiting me.

This for me has meant trousers, and this black Zara pair is the 3rd I have added to my wardrobe in recent months. Until now I have actively avoided black trousers, reminding me of work clothes or worse school uniform, ugh

I would recommend checking Zara in store as now they have gone into sale I cannot find these trousers to link, but I'm guessing they may still have pairs in store

BUT, I tried these on, and I felt good, the high waist and wide legs make them flattering on my figure and the stretchy waist means they are comfy. Once purchased I set about styling them in the least smart way possible, haha!! what better way to instantly dress down any outfit then by putting on trainers! I am a massive trainers fan, they are usually my first choice of foot wear with pretty much any outfit.

I am also digging retro and vintage styling at the moment and these NEW BALANCE, remind me of trainers I wore in the 90's, and omg they are the comfiest shoes I own. FYI they are in the sale to, so if you to fancy a pair, best get on that shit!

Keeping with the retro vibe a knotted T-shirt fits well with the high waisted trousers and keeps everything Summery and super casual this 7up one comes from H&M and is not only dirt cheap but really soft, I got it in a medium so it was big enough to knot.

Kathleen Citrus cheer review

I am a sucker for all things skin care, so when I got the opportunity to try Kathleen natural* new luxurious body care range, I was all over at that shiz!!

There are three scents in the range, depending on your mood, sensual rose, tranquil fields and my choice of citrus cheer.

Kathleen Citrus cheer review

Each scent has two products in the range a bath/shower gel and a skin/massage oil, as I mentioned I went for the Citrus duo as anything zesty appeals to me, especially with its promises to make you feel uplifted and awakened. I need all the help I can get with that, so does it deliver?
well nothing not a shower gel or any other product for that matter is gonna have me skipping down the street whistling uplifting tunes!!
but it certainly smells glorious and definitely helps wake me up in the mornings along with of course a gallon of coffee.......

When using the shower gel you only need a small amount to get a lovely lather, perfect for shaving your legs. It leaves a hint of fragrance on the skin but nothing to strong and my skin feels smooth.
Kathleen Citrus cheer review

What I love about the oil, is again its scent which is slightly stronger then the shower gel, the fact its multi purpose and you only need a few drops to be effective. It's great for massaging into hands and really sorts out any rough skin, without feeling greasy, but I love to massage it into my body after a shower,  it leaves a slight sheen to freshly shaved smooth legs which I very much enjoy! it can also be used as a massage oil, I need to get the MR on the case and try that out ASAP.

Kathleen Citrus cheer review

Kathleen products are on a higher price point, than highstreet brands but the products are luxurious, made with not only science but natural great quality ingredients. Kathleen's skin care specialists are passionate about helping you to achieve healthy skin. The products have no nasty hidden chemicals, and only contain high quality natural organic ingredients.

I have certainly enjoyed trying out this brand and would 100% love to try more from their range as the more I look into it, the more great looking products I see.

Why not have a look for yourself at www.kathleennatural.co.uk

The button up trend my highstreet picks

Now unless you have not visited a shop, been online or opened a magazine, you will know the button up trend is huge right now, with basically every high street store and online retailer buying into it. For me this is such a classic style, many of the pieces you invest in this summer will take you through seasons to come. The simplest way to get a bit of the button up action is with a simple white vest top, the fitted style goes with literally everything and means no having to tuck in and those awkward bumps under your clothes.
Newlook button through white top

I have been trawling the interweb and kindly compiled some of my top picks from the high street just for you.... if you are looking for budget pieces I recommend looking in NEWLOOK they are killing this trend.

Another super easy way to wear buttons this summer, is the summer dress, whether it be bodycon, tea dress or midi, there are button up options to suit everyone's style and shape. Of course a dress can also be carried through into Autumn with a leather jacket and ankle boots, so what's stopping you ???

Will you be buying into the button up trend? or are you already deep in it? let me know in the comments......

Nars Velvet matte lip pencil Red Square Review

I have been on the hunt for the perfect orange toned red for Summer for a while now, and one rainy afternoon while browsing the internet for makeup, a far to regular occurrence! I came across the shade Red Square  in Nars velvet matte pencil range. Now I'm gonna sound like a bad blogger here, buttttttttt I have never tried anything from Nars, IKR!!

Nars Velvet matte lip pencil Red Square Review

I knew I was onto a winner though as I have heard nothing but good things about the about the Nars Velvet matte lip pencils , so I cheekily added it to my birthday list and was lucky enough to receive it on my big day.

So are they worth the hype........ Well the lip pencil applies like a dream, it feels creamy with zero dragging, its super pigmented and dries down almost immediately to a matte finish. It doesn't feel matte on the lips, I haven't experienced any dryness or discomfort in fact it feels pretty moisterising which makes a change for a matte lip product.. The colour for me is just what I was looking for, its red but not a Christmas red, its pretty orange toned and I think a perfect summer shade.

Does it stay put........Yes it stays put pretty well for a red lipstick, the thing is with brighter colours you can rarely find one that lasts, but this Nars one can deal with cold and hot drinks really well, with no transfer. Upon eating it does ware slightly on the inside of the lips as you would expect really but it still manages to look presentable. It can also be topped up easily, and still look great.

Nars Velvet matte lip pencil Red Square Review

I will definitely be adding other shades from this range to my collection as I am smitten with the formula.

Do you have any shade recommendations?

Simple skincare I recommend

Skincare is something that has become increasingly important to me as I have got older, because it doesn't matter how good the paint is if the canvas is shoddy.

My main skin concern is finding products suitable for my combination skin, that will add moisture where I need it without making my T Zone oily.

Simple skincare

Simple have always offered value for money when it comes to skincare, but is it to cheap to be good?

In a word NO, I have been putting three products from the Simple range to the test.

Hydrating cleansing oil - I have never used an oil when it comes to cleansing before, I must admit it's always scared me, will it make my skin oily? but I was so intrigued and it was on offer, so it came home with me. Now this product has really impressed me, it is so good at removing my makeup, like really good..... just add a few drops to your hands and massage into face, you literally see the makeup melting off your skin, then wipe with a warm wet muslin cloth, and tada clean skin, that doesn't feel greasy or oily but soft and clean. LOVE IT!

Hydrating water boost gel cream - This product was recommended by my friend Hayley from Haysparkle.com, she loves it and so do I. It offers just the right amount of hydration, in a light weight formulation, perfect to use both morning and night. A small amount goes a long way, leaving my skin smooth and moisterised. The dry areas of my face are happy and hydrated, as are the oily areas.

Water based sheet mask - Now we all love a sheet mask, and this Simple one is as good as any I have tried. It is very wet and feels pleasantly cool on my face. Just leave on for 15 minutes and hope know one comes to the door!! peel off and massage the excess product into your skin. My skin feels amazing after using this mask, really soft and smooth, and it definitely looks plumped and hydrated.

If you are looking for simple, skincare suitable for sensitive skin, I highly recommend giving SIMPLE a go!

My glowy summer makeup

When it comes to my makeup, I am not a fan of heavy full coverage foundations, even more so in the warmer months I like to go for a light coverage, my skin but better finish with a bit of a glow to it. So if that is your bag, stick around because I am gonna share the makeup products I have been choosing recently.

My glowy summer makeup

I recently made an asos order of makeup something I hadn't done before I purchased a mascara, which I have already reviewed and a cc cream, powder and setting spray which I am going to talk about in this post.

Like I said when it comes to base makeup in summer, I like lightweight products, luckily due to a new skincare regime, which I will talk about another time, my skin is looking pretty damn good. I start with a little concealer on any redness, I like the makeup revolution conceal and define, and some barry m colour correction under my eyes and blend. Then that's when I go in with 3ina cc cream, I have shade 103 for reference. I pop a small amount I'm talking probably less than pea size on a oval brush, dot over my face and blend, you really do not need much product at all, to achieve a glowy skin like finish.

As this product is so glowy, which I like, I don't like to add to many powder products on top, so use a cream blush, and liquid highlighter. I do add a little powder bronzer at this stage to help give my face definition.

My glowy summer makeup
Revolution-conceal & define, Revolution - highlighter,

Of course I fill in my brows and then normally reach for either my naked heat palette or too faced sweet peach both perfect eye palettes for a summer makeup look, whack on the aforementioned mascara, Pop on some lippie, either a nude or an orange/red. Then give my chin, nose and forehead a quick dusting of Nip & fab banana setting powder, This is the softest powder ever and works a dream at setting my makeup, without making me to matte, meaning I'm glowy rather than shiney! spritz with Mac prep and prime and that's it, simples!!

Vintage clothes shopping my tips

First up I wanna say I'm not an expert, I just wanted to share what I learnt from visiting a vintage fair last weekend, because it can be a bit intimidating when faced with rails and rails of clothes, and swarms of people.

Vintage clothes shopping my tips

Vintage clothes shopping my tips

My first tip, would be to get there early, although they fill up stock throughout the day, I reckon they defo put the best stuff out first, well I know I would. Another tip would be to have a game plan, especially if there is a particular piece you are after, eg a denim jacket, head to that section first, you will be much more relaxed for the rest of the visit once you have bagged that item you really want.

This next one may sound silly at first, but wear something lightweight, then you can slip things on over the top, saves queing up for the changing rooms or having to strip off in the middle of the hall!! Also bare in mind they are many other people on the hunt for a bargain so if you see something you like, grab it even if you are undecided because the chances are if you don't someone else will.

So what are good things to buy? Denim/leather jackets never go out of fashion and can save you a fortune if you buy vintage as well as giving you the benefit of having a far more unique item. I would go for dresses, tops and skirts in classic prints such as stripe, polka dot or floral. Retro sportswear is always a good choice to, old skool Adidas or puma t-shirts look great tucked into straight leg jeans or knotted and worn with high waisted skinnies. My next tip is to not worry about the size label, retro clothes sizing is often totally different to our modern sizes.

Denim jacket - vintage

Sunglasses - Primark

And lastly keep an open mind, and remember pieces can be styled with stuff already in your wardrobe, adding a belt for example can really change how a dress looks to how it does on the hanger. Also adding a modern twist to an outfit totally changes that vintage find into a gem, here I have added vans, a basket bag and aviators to give what could be quite a boring dress a bit of a boost.
