Lakitira resort and village Kardamena Kos

We have been back from holiday, but a week and I am already thinking about getting away again. This years summer holiday was two weeks spent at the Lakitira resort, Kardamena, Kos. We love Kos and have visited several times, but this was our first time staying in such a swish hotel. So I thought I would share my thoughts on the hotel, the location, and the facilities.

Location, Location, Location, this was what sold us our stay at the Lakitira, it is approximately 4 km outside of Kardamena village, a place we are very familiar with, and even have friends who live there. We love the slightly unfinished charm of this Greek resort, Kardamena also boasts a stunning harbour with many of the nicest restaurants and bars overlooking it. There is a bus into town but we hired a car for the duration of our stay, I personally wouldn't walk the route as there is very little in the way of pavements.

The Lakitira is nestled between two beaches, at a point on the end of the island meaning, the location is perfect for beach lovers and the sea can be seen from most parts of the grounds. Even at the pool you can see the sea with the beach only being a few feet behind, you can easily spend time at the pool or the beach without a mammoth trek between them.

Facilities, the Lakitira offers what you would expect really for a four star hotel, a large family pool area, including child's pool, surrounded by plenty of sun loungers and parasols complete with bar, that over looks the beach. Additionally to this at the front of the grounds, surrounded by gorgeous gardens is another this time adults only pool also complete with bar. There are several tennis courts, plus sailing and other water sports on the beach. These are currently provided by the British tour operator Mark Warner, included in there package, but I am pretty sure should you wish to take part in the sporting activities you can at an additional cost.

Like I said previously the main tour operator on sight seemed to be Mark warner, but the hotel also had some TUI guests, as well as German and Italian visitors. We made our booking through Booking.com, and stayed in a superior sea view room on a half board basis, this was perfect for what we wanted. Many guests were on a all inclusive basis, but we prefer to get in the car and see the sights and sample food around the island, so in our case HB was all we needed.

What was the food like? Pretty good actually for a buffet restaurant, in fact I would go as far as to say the breakfast was excellent, with literally every breakfast food you could think of, from cereal, a variety of breads and conserves, to fruit, pastries, cold meat, cheese, as well as a variety of cooked options, like bacon, eggs and Greek sausage. The dinners for us where a little less inspiring, although good quality and a good variety it lacked any real Greekness about it which for us, means they missed a trick. The hotel also has an Italian restaurant, requiring reservation, but included in the price, and a A la Carte Greek taverna, unfortunately not included in the price, which being the only authentic Greek eatery was a shame. Also on sight there is a mini supermarket and snack bar open during the day.

The Room, this was by far, hands down the best hotel room I have ever stayed in, the view is worth the price tag alone, and we never grew tired of looking out over the grounds and the sea from our balcony. The hotel is low rise and only has three floors, our room was top floor meaning the views are staggering.

The room itself is a good size, with a massive and very comfy bed, a desk, wardrobe, good size bathroom and TV, although we couldn't really find much apart from German channels, not that we felt the need to watch tv, not with such incredible views. The room and entire hotel is very well kept and immaculately clean, and the staff all very attentive and polite.

Overall we really enjoyed staying in the Lakitira resort, the only minor niggles for us where the lack of Greek food, and very little in the way of food labelling meaning you wasn't always quite sure of what you were eating or what it contained. Some foods where labeled others not, it was very inconsistent, although I was relieved to find they offered dairy free milk alternatives at breakfast.

This is quite a long arse post so well done if you got the bottom, have you been to Kos before, is there a hotel you recommend? let me know in the comments.

It's a long one, why not PIN for later
