Tips for a more relaxing bedroom

The whole point of your bedroom is that it is supposed to be a relaxing environment where you can get away from the stresses and strains of the world. The decorating of the room needs to reflect these ideas. Otherwise, the room is not fulfilling its purpose and you will find it harder to have that relaxing night’s sleep that you need to function well,( and be a nice person ) So, here are a few tips to give you some guidance on turning your bedroom into a sanctuary, and the relaxing space you deserve.

Tips for a more relaxing bedroom

Declutter the Room

If there is one room of the house which shouldn’t be bogged down in clutter, it is the bedroom. Now to get started, you should really go through everything in the bedroom and be very honest about whether it actually belongs in the bedroom or not. And once you have found a new home for the items which don’t need to be there, you can then invest in some more storage, so that the things which remain all have a right place. A simple tip for maximising the space that you have available is by adding some shelving, to get everything off the floor.

Set the Tone

When you are decorating a room for relaxation, it is important that you get the tone and colouring right. The last thing that you want is anything to bright or patterned which is too overstimulating. After all, this is the room where you are trying to drift off , and get that good night's sleep. Generally, you should stick to more muted colour palette in the bedroom. If you choose an accent shade keep it cohesive, and any details in the same shades.

Switch up decor with the Seasons

Now that we are entering the coldest time of the year, you should be upping the cosy factor, load up your bed with a thick duvet, blankets, throws, cushions, pillows the lot! Then when Spring rolls around again, you may decide to switch things up. Perhaps you could introduce some greenery into the space bearing in mind that succulents are perfect bedside plants. You also may want to replace the heavy winter curtains with ones that let in more light, making the space feel more airy.

Invest in a Decent Mattress

If there is one item which is worth investing in and spending money on, in your home, it is certainly your mattress. This is the single most-used item of furniture in your house and it can make such a significant difference to your quality of life, simply from the better night’s sleep that it provides. Take the time to go down to your local bed store to sample some different options before settling on the one which is best for you.

Creating a more relaxing bedroom environment doesn’t have to be the most complicated thing in the world, and these are just a few simple tips that will help.

Saving money this Christmas

Saving money this Christmas

Saving money this Christmas

Christmas is supposed to be fun, spending time with your nearest and dearest, eating to many mince pies, having one to many glasses of wine, watching Christmas TV or playing games, but for many of us it's a stressful, and expensive time of the year.

Since watching Martin Lewis the money saving expert on TV Tuesday, where he talked about taking the stress out of Christmas, by cutting out unnecessary  present buying. ( if you haven't seen it, google Martin Lewis Christmas and give it a watch) It really has got me thinking about just how much money we waste buying a gift for someone, because we feel guilty!  they bought one for us, so now we have to spend money getting one for them. I’m talking a neighbour, work colleague, family friend, someone who unannounced buys you a gift, so now of course in order to stop us feeling guilty we buy them something, even though we haven’t budgeted for that present. This causes so much stress, especially when money is tight. Or maybe you have a large extended family and have been buying for your cousins, Aunts, Uncles, and their kids. DON’T, draw a line, maybe buy for your immediate family, or possibly just buy for the children, BUT please do not feel obliged to buy for everyone.

Tit for tatt gift buying

Is such a waste, not only of money, but we end up buying and receiving gifts we don’t want or need, actual tatt just so we don’t look bad for not buying that person a gift. Everyone of us has an obligation to cut down on the amount of unnecessary things we throw away, including all that packaging. So buy less, the less we buy the less we are throwing out, and that's not just packaging but those novelty gifts that if we are honest, end up in the bin.

So what do we do?

We need to be having those conversations, talking about not buying for each other, asking people not to buy us a gift. Often someone’s generosity can cause undue stress on someone who doesn’t have the cash to be quite so frivolous.  Maybe suggest only exchanging cards, or if you still want to exchange gifts, set a budget or maybe organise a secret Santa.

Speak up

Often other people feel the same, it just takes one person to speak up, and everyone can have a more enjoyable, less expensive and ultimately less stressful Christmas.

How to make a bauble wreath

While in a Pinterest black hole one evening, franticly adding pins to my many Christmas boards, I came across homemade wreaths, and bauble wreaths really grabbed my attention, they look so striking yet are such a simple idea, and fairly easy to assemble.

Easy fluffy vegan pancakes

I LOVE PANCAKES, but since going dairy free, there has been a fluffy pancake hole in my life, that is until now. I have discovered a recipe that creates the fluffiest pancakes myself and my husband had ever had, and guess what they are easy to make, with store cupboard ingredients, NO need to go to the supermarket to search out some weird and frankly expensive ingredients.

So if that sounds up your street, stick around......................

Things To Think About Before A Home Expansion

Home improvement is something on a lot of people’s wish lists, including mine, ( I have just recently redecorated my living room) and a lot of the time we like to kick back and relax with a good daydream about how our homes will look with a new layout, or the space knocking out that wall in the living room will give you, or how sleek and shiny the bathroom will look with the new tiles. But before you get on with any of these plans, you’re going to have to take a few principles into consideration.

Home expansions can have a huge impact on your lifestyle, as well as the lifestyle of other people and creatures around you. (something I think we are all becoming more conscience of) So you need to be sure what you’re doing is healthy and safe, and that you’ve got the right permission to go ahead with it. So here’s a couple of things to think about.

Living with ME

Living with ME

MEMyalgic Encephalomyelitis, or CFSChronic fatigue syndrome is a chronic illness and like many chronic illnesses, not much is known about the exact cause, why the symptoms and severity differ so greatly. In fact in my experience often even so called medical professionals are not sure what it is, and how to treat it. I had a pharmacist only last week, say to me in a confused tone, "oh that's the fatigue thing isn't it" reassuring it is not.

My perfect Autumn makeup products

I think we are all guilty of this, once the nights start drawing in and the weather gets colder, we put away all our summer pinky, peach makeup and whack out the moodier, darker rusts, browns, purple and gold shades, it's like a timer goes off in our brains and we have to completely change how we have been doing our makeup for the last few months, and raid our beauty stash, it somehow makes the change to dreary weather more bearable.

So here is what I've found from the depths of my makeup collection and am embracing with all guns blazing this Autumn.
