Den Haag is really easy to get to from Amsterdam central station. We caught a very efficient, two story train for the 50 minute journey costing €25 for a day return ticket. I cannot stress enough how good dutch public transport is, with large clean trains that run very frequent services. Once at Den Haag we bought a day tram ticket meaning we could travel in the Den Haag area, and we took a twenty minute tram ride out to Madurodam.
We were so lucky that the sun came out, and had a lovely morning wondering around the mini city. The detailed scale models are amazing and there are many interactive activities. Including some indoor educational installations. There is also two restaurants and the obligatory souvenir shop. I would recommend a visit to Madurodam it's not just for kids we really enjoyed it, and learnt alot about Holland and it's history.
One thing I never realised is that Den Haag is coastal, and just a further two stops on the tram took us to Kurhaus, where we found the most stunning beach, with beach front restaurants and shops along with a fabulous Pier. A beautiful place to visit on a sunny day.
We then jumped back on the tram and headed back towards Den Haag, getting off just before central station to take in some of the architecture including the impressive parliament building. Unfortunately by then a sea fog had rolled in and it got pretty cold, meaning we kept our wander round the city centre to a minimum. I would certainly recommend visiting on a warmer day for a good mooch round.
