Tiffy is skint and needs a cheap flat, Leon works nights is hardly ever home and needs the money. Their friends think they're crazy, but it's the perfect solution. Leon occupies the flat during the day while Tiffy's at work, and Tiffy gets the flat after 6pm every evening and the on weekends.
But with obsessive ex boyfriends, demanding clients, wrongly imprisoned brothers and of course the fact they still haven't met yet, they discover that if you want to feel at home you need to throw away the rule book.
I love the narrative of the book and Beth brings the characters to life, I immediately fell in love with Tiffy and as the reader you empathise with her and how she's dealing with a breakup from someone who is not who she thought they were. I love how she's not the typical delicate female character but bold and not just in her dress sense.
Leon is quiet and sensitive and sometimes difficult to read by the other characters, he has his own problems while trying to care for everyone else, but soon shows he can stand up and fight when needed to.
"He smiles indulgently. Tiffy. come on. What are you suggesting? That I got on that cruise just to see you? That I turned up tonight just to see you?" - Justin
"Oh. I .....guess that makes sense. My cheeks flush; I'm suddenly embarrassed." - Tiffy
All the characters are so well written and all have their impact on either Tiffy or Leon and how the story flows. The ex boyfriend Justin is portrayed well, he's quietly manipulative while seeming loving and caring.
The Flatshare is one of my favourite books I've read this year, I romped through it, and couldn't wait to find out what happened next, a real feel good page turner.
