Another month has drawn to a close, how quick are the months flying by? And I've had a pretty good reading month, I have enjoyed books from genres I never used to read, but have come to really enjoy, it just shows you, if you give a book a go, you may well find a whole new world to explore.
The Chocolate lovers diet - Carole Matthews ⭐⭐⭐
I picked this book up on a charity shop visit, and I really wanted to enjoy it. The premise being four women with a collective love of chocolate, who support each other through the trials and tribulations of their complicated love lives. The story follows Lucy and her three girl pals Nadia, Autumn and Chantel and their respective relationships. For me the characters lacked substance and the story lacked believability. It just didn't really do it for me.
Daughter of Smoke and Bone - Laini Taylor ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Once upon a time an angel and a devil fell in Love
It did not end well
I adored this book the first in a trilogy and the first time I dipped my toe into the genre of fantasy fiction, only to fall in love with a whole new world of storytelling. I have written a full review of Daughter of Smoke and Bone, check it out here,
The Foyles bookshop girls (Kindle edition) - Elaine Roberts ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The book begins in 1914, London before the outbreak of world war 1. Three ordinary girls work in London's famous Foyles bookstore, that is until the outbreak of war, when everything changes. The story follows how the war affects those left at home, and the part they play. It really highlights how terrifying it must of been for those at home, not only being worried sick about the men at the front, will your fiance, or brothers come home, but coping with lives being lost right there in London, as the country was bombed furiously by the Germans. How will relationships hold out, will your family survive.
Days of Blood & Starlight - Laini Taylor ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The second book in the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy.
Once upon a time, and angel and a devil fell in love and dared to imagine a world free of bloodshed and war.
This is not that world
Karou finally knows who she is, what she is, she has the answers she's always sought, but with that comes a truth she cannot bare and would do anything to undo. She loved the enemy and he betrayed her, and a world, her world has suffered for it. Karou must decide how far she is prepared to go to avenge her people. She and Akiva(the angel) or on opposite sides of an age old war. They are both fighting a battle, but can any hope be salvaged from the ashes of their broken dream?
I cannot wait to read the last in the trilogy, 100% recommend these books to anyone looking to venture into a new world.
Before the broken star - Emily R King ( gifted by Netgalley) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Before the broken star is unlike any story I have read
before. Everley Donovan is living on borrowed time, her clockwork heart has acquired her time but for how long? will she live to take vengeance on Markham
the man who killed her family, and find out the secret that shrouds her very
existence, why has Father Time allowed her to live, how did her clockwork heart
come to prevail and keep ticking. Everley finds herself sentenced to time in a
penal colony, she will do anything to track Markham and make him pay. Soon it
becomes apparent that Markham is not who he seems and Everley is forced to follow him on a quest to
the otherworlds, but will she have chance to seek her revenge and will she find
the reason for her existence.

DeleteThe chocolate book sounds interesting, it's a shame it was the one you enjoyed the least. I'm impressed you got so much reading in! I'm trying to make more time for it this year but I've only read 3 books so far, the kids don't leave a lot of reading time, haha!
ReplyDeleteI hope that you are having a great week so far :)
Away From Blue
Haha kids and reading don't go well, mine are older now. I pick up a book when I have a spare half hour here and there x
DeleteI absolutely adored the Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy when I read it a few years ago. I think you will really enjoy the third book. It's honestly one of those rare series where I am actually satisfied by how it ended instead of wishing there was more or wishing it hadn't ended in the way it did. Before The Broken Star sound quite interesting.
