What I read in September

I must admit over the summer, I got a bit slack with my reading challenge, but that's changed in the later part of September. I have read three amazing books, that have got me hungry for more. I'm well and truly back on the wagon.

I try to read a variety of genres and have really mixed things up since starting my reading challenge back in January. I used to be an easy to read chick lit kinda girl, but now I regularly dip my toe in other more challenging genres, including a bit of thriller, something I must admit I didn't think I would enjoy but have been pleasantly surprised by.

The girl in the mustard coat - Emily Chriscoli (AD)⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The story covers the case of abducted and murdered schoolgirl Beth Maguire, an unsolved case that has haunted a family and torn it apart, with each member going through their own heartache. We start at the beginning when the crime happens, then revisit it later, when the family and retired police officer Frank, reopen the investigation and carry out their own enquiries into the events of that horrific day. They eventually convince the police to open the cold case, and we as the reader are taken along on the investigation, with the eventual arrest of the perpetrator. A gripping story that had me hooked from the beginning with the who done it being a total shock. 100% recommend to thriller lovers. 

Reader, I married me - Sophie Tanner ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐(gifted)

Reader, I married me, is like no other book I've read. It's not the traditional love story, or story of heartbreak but that of a journey of self love, and learning self worth. Chloe has broken up with the love of her life, her jobs not going well and online dating has been a disaster, one drunken night she decides she's enough she doesn't need a man and she's going to marry herself,  she announces it all on her blog and passes out. Only to wake in the morning to find her social media has gone mad, she's caused quite a stir. We then follow Chloe on her journey and find not everyone is as supportive as she hoped. The book is witty and made me laugh, as well covering some more difficult feelings that made me reflect on events in my own life. 

Never Greener - Ruth Jones ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This debut novel from Ruth Jones was the biggest surprise this month, this book had me hooked from the start, I absolutely adored it. The story follows Kate and Callum who have a very messy relationship, that spans on and off over 20 years. The intense union causes so much hurt to people around the couple, yet they can't help themselves their seems to be an impossible bond that just can't be broken. For me this is a must read, and like no other "love" story I've read, a total triumph from Ruth Jones.

I am now 39 books into my 45 book challenge, I can't wait to see where reading takes me next.
